Thalweg

Thalweg

A small studio making slow, strange games. The name is a river word: the line of lowest points along the bed, where the water runs deepest. Move your cursor to stir the surface. Keep scrolling. It gets darker.

Three games

Silt

Mending fishing nets in the dark, by feel alone. There is no screen to look at, only the sound of the rope and the weight of the knots under your fingers. Twenty minutes long, and free.

Released
2024
Plays on
Windows, Mac, headphones required

The Long Tide

You keep a lighthouse at the edge of a sea that is slowly leaving. Each season the water is a little further out and fewer ships come. You keep the light on anyway. A year in real time, an hour a day.

Released
2025
Plays on
Windows, PlayStation 5, Switch 2

Undertow

A descent through a drowned city, narrated by the water that filled it. Our largest game so far and the one this page is modelled on. No release date yet, and we will not name one until it is true.

Status
In development
Plays on
Windows first, consoles later

Plates

Concept work from the three games and the screens inside them. Every plate here is drawn on your machine by a small program, not loaded as an image. Scroll to move along the wall. See the whole gallery.

District 9, Undertow. Environment concept, before the water.
Vehicle bay, Undertow. Lookdev for the hull and its lighting.
Navigation glass, The Long Tide. Interface for the keeper's boat.
Ring station. Key art study for a game we have not announced.
Service corridor, Undertow. Light study, one figure for scale.
Hull diagnostics, The Long Tide. Screen from the engine room.
Where the sea used to be, The Long Tide. Final-season mood.

Two people

We have worked together since 2021 and share one room, one server, and a long disagreement about tea. Everything we ship is made by the two of us.

We also take on art: cover work, animated titles, and the occasional installation. If you have a strange thing and a modest budget, write to us.

The floor

This is as deep as the page goes. Write to hello@thalweg.games for press, commissions, or to tell us which of the games kept you up.
